Game Definitions

1-2-3 or ONE-TWO-THREE

Players will be teamed so that there is a balance of handicap on each team. (an A,B,C,D player.)

Score 1 net best on hole #1, 2 net best on hole #2, 3 net best on hole #3 and repeat the cycle for entire round.

Score 1 best ball on holes  1,4,7,10,13

Score 2 best balls on holes 2,5,8,11,14,17

Score 3 best balls on holes 3,6,9,12,15,18

3 in 1

This game is played in a foursome with 2 players on each team.  The teams remain the same throughout the entire round.

The round is divided into 3 segments of six holes each. The type of game changes after each 6 hole segment.

Example:

The 1st 6 holes could be a 2 player best ball

The next 6 holes could be low ball-low total

The last 6 played as a 2 person scramble.

This format allows the players to experience a variety of games during the round.

6-4-2-0

Each hole has a total point value of 12 points.

Players earn points as follows:

Best score: 6 points
2nd Best score: 4 points
3rd  Best score: 2 points
Worst (highest):    0 points

In the case of a tie for best score between 2 players, the 1st and 2nd points are evenly split.  The 2 tied players would get 5 pts ea. Should 3 players tie for best score, the 1st,2nd,and 3rd points are evenly split. The 3 tied players would get 4 pts. each. If  all 4 players tie for best score they split the 12 points evenly.  Ties for second best score or for high score are split in the same manner.

9-9

Pair players in any way you like ( flight or mixed). Players will compete for net in flights and prizes will be awarded for low net for each nine separately.  Exactly ½ of each players handicap will be subtracted from their gross score on each nine to determine the winners.

Animal Golf

Each group starts with the animal cards (designate 1 person to hold them at the start) As play goes on, the cards are awarded to players as infractions occur.  Example: If you make a birdie, you receive the birdie card.  If you hit out of bounds, you get the gorilla card and so on.  If someone subsequently goes out of bounds, you give the gorilla card from them.  If you make an offense and someone tries to give you a card, the only way to deny or avoid getting the card is if you already hold the birdie card.  In this situation, you turn the birdie card in and the other player retains the animal card they tried to give you (until the next infraction, of course).  At the end of all the holes, pay 25 cents per card in your possession to all the players in your group.

BEST IN / BEST OUT / BEST 18

Players are paired in any manner.

Prizes are awarded for the best score for the front nine, best score on back nine, and best of 18.

BINGO-BANGO-BONGO

This is a fun game that allows players to be competitive regardless of the differences in handicaps.

Points are earned as follows:

1st ball on the green (Bingo) : 1 Point
Closest to the pin once everyone is on the green. (Bango):   1 Point
First ball in the hole (Bongo): 1 Point

The player that is furthest away must play first.  First on, closest to the pin, and first in, determines who wins on each hole.

BLIND NINE

The tournament representative will blind draw nine holes and place in an envelope. (the pro shop can do this and keep the envelope for us)  When the first group comes in , the envelope can be opened and only the holes drawn count for score.  Subtract ½  handicap from the total of the nine holes scored.

If anyone picks up on any of the blind nine holes, use the maximum score they can take and add 1.

BLIND PARTNERS

Players may play with anyone, But partner is not drawn until the last group tees off, So nobody knows who their partner is until the round is finished.

(The tournament chairman or the pro shop can draw the partners.)

The team with the lowest best ball score wins.

BULL'S-EYE  or PINK BALL

Each foursome has a colored ball that is traded throughout the players.  The first player uses it on the first hole, second on the 2nd hole and so forth. The rotation of the ball cannot be changed.   Take the best two net scores on the hole and add them.  Of course , one of these must be the colored ball.(This game can also be played as 3 best ball.)

This game can be played where either the team who loses their colored ball is disqualified or have the colored ball replaced.

It can also pay to the team with the lowest colored ball score.

CHAIRMAN

Can be played with 3 or 4 players.

The first player to win a hole (untied) becomes the chairman.  If the chairman wins the next hole then the chairman wins a point from the other players. Should the hole result in a tie there are no points earned and the chairman keeps the chair. If one of the other players wins the hole than that player is the new chairman with no points won or lost for that hole.

Players earn points by winning a hole while being the chairman.

CRISS CROSS

Players are flighted but paired in any manner.  Following play players choose their best score from holes 1 or 10 , 2 or 11, 3 or 12, 4 or 13, 5 or 14, 6 or 15, 7 or 16, 8 or 17, 9 or 18.  (par 3’s are matched this way)

Ending with nine holes of score.  Then subtract ½ handicap to determine final score.

DREAM TEAM

This is a 2 week tournament.  The first morning of play partners will be selected at random by drawing from higher handicap grouping and a lower handicap group.  After partners are drawn, one partner will decide if she wants odd or even holes: her score will count on those holes.  The other partner will take whichever her partner did not choose, and her score will count on those.

The second week of play they may improve their scores on the holes needing improvement, whether they be odd or even.

This tournament is not flighted, so collect money for prizes and distribute for 1st and 2nd (3rd if there is enough participation).  Or prizes may be bought for this special tournament.

EXCEPT 18 (Best Ball)

This game is played in foursomes distributed with various levels of handicaps.  Score is determined by combining the net best ball of the foursome on the front nine. Two best net on holes 10-17, and Three best net on 18.

FLORIDA SCRAMBLE

This is a meeting day format with pairings made mixing the players with various handicaps evenly amongst the groups.  The scramble is played as a normal scramble with the best position being the one where all players hit from with one exception for the Florida scramble.  The player whose shot was last selected must sit out for the next shot. (they can hit for practice , but their shot does not count.)

So if player 1’s tee shot was selected for the drive, then player 1’s second shot can not be used. The player whos 2nd shot was used cannot be used for the 3rd and so on to the green.  On the putting surface all players are eligible to putt.  Each hole is a new hole so there is no carry over of the excluded player.

3 Drives are usually required from each person.

FOUR PERSON ALTERNATE SHOT

Teams will be made of A,B,C,D  player designations.  All players drive, select the best shot and players hit alternately to the hole.  To determine who hits the second shot to start the alternating sequence, whoever hit the drive selected does not hit, and the next person on the a,b,c,d sequence hits.

Example: If the B player’s drive is selected, then the sequence of shots to the green is : C player hits next, D player next the A player and so on as necessary until in the hole.  All players drive on every hole and then alternate in.

Grandmothers

Pairings will be made with an even number of grandmothers per group as possible.  Grandmothers will be in charge all round and will determine who hits 1st on tee shots, who putts first, who drives the cart and other rules announced prior to play.  Each grandmother may have 2 mulligans per side.  Game is a 2 net best ball out of the foursome with 1 additional rule.  Each time the grandmother’s ball is used for the 2 best balls selected, the team may subtract one shot from their overall score.   Conceivably, one team could use the grandmother’s shot for every hole and subtract 18 from their final score or 36 with 2 grandmothers on a team.  Note: The grandmother’s ball must be the legitimate lowest best ball, and not just used to get the subtraction later. (Sorry, we had to have this one rule)

GREENIES

Greenies is a game played on par 3’s.  The player who’s tee shot is on the green closest to the pin wins the greenie.  The point value of each greenie is determined prior to the round.

Greenies can be played with or without carryovers.

GOOD, BAD & UGLY

For this game, points are received for good scores, and points subtracted for bad scores to come up with a total overall point totals.

Points are as follows:

Eagle

9 Points
Birdie 6 Points
Par 3 Points
Bogie 1 Point
Double Bogie -1 Point
Triple Bogie or Higher -3 points

Highest score wins.  This event can be flighted and played gross or net at the discretion of the tournament chairperson.

GORILLA GOLF

MODIFIED SCRAMBLE

Everyone tees off then selects the best drive of the gorilla.  Everyone proceeds to the selected shot and hits from that spot.  Everyone must play their own ball from that spot until the ball is holed.  This includes putting.

Select 2 best balls net of the 4 and that will be your score for the team.

LAST PLAY DAY

This play day is usually a meeting and final awards and played as a scramble format.  But it is at the discretion of the last play day chairperson for the format.

LOW NET PLUS PUTTS

Players keep score for each hole and keep track of all putts.  At the end of play, subtract their handicap, then add putts to the net score.  Low score in flights wins.

LOW GROSS-LOW NET

Pairing will be made by handicap, starting with the lowest handicap players playing together and on up.  Flights will be made according to handicap and money will be awarded for low gross and low net in each flight.  The same person cannot win both.

MEMBER-GUEST TOURNAMENT

This format of this tournament is at the discretion of the member-guest tournament chairperson.

(see yellow sample 1999 member guest )

MEMBER-MEMBER TOURNAMENT

Players select their own member to be teamed with for 2 weeks of tournament.     Prizes will be awarded . 2nd place will pay if participation is good.

NO ALIBIS

Instead of using handicaps in the normal fashion, No alibis players get to shoot a specific number of shots again throughout the round.  essentially a do-over.  Usually the number of replays is three-fourths of a players handicap.  When taking the shot again the golfer must use the second shot regardless of where it ends up.  She can’t decide to play the first shot and you can never replay the same shot twice.

Handicaps will need to be rounded up or down to whole numbers.

O-N-E-S

Total scores of the holes beginning with the letters O,N,E & S.  Subtract ½  handicap for score .

This would include holes  1,6,7,8,9,11,16,17,18

PENNY-A-PUTT

At the end of play, collect a penny for each putt that each golfer makes during their round.  The person with the lowest putts is awarded all the money.  You can flight this if lots of people sign up.

PLAY WITH THE PROS

The pairings will be made in three or foursomes (depending on participation) and the pros will play along with each group and their best ball will count towards the team best ball score for the round.

SELECT TWELVE

Choose twelve holes before play that you will score best.  Subtract 2/3 of your handicap to determine your score.  Also, 2 par 5’s must be used in the player’s 12 holes.  This event should be flighted and prizes awarded by flights.

SHAMBLE

This is a point game in which a foursome plays as a team against the other four member teams in a tournament.

In a shamble, each member of the foursome hits a tee shot and the best drive of the team is selected.  From the spot of the selected tee shot,  each player hits their second shot and continues to play their own ball to finish out the hole.

Each players individual score is recorded and points are given as follows :

Par 1 Point
Birdie 2 Points
Eagle 3 Points

The individual points are added together to make the team score for the hole.  Players use their handicap, and points earned are based on net scores of each individual player.

SKIN GAMES

A “ SKIN” is given to the player with the low score on a hole.  Players will be paired within their own flight, as possible.  Following play, scores will be posted and skins will be determined by flight.

Example: Holes 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Player A 4 5 5 3 5 5 4 6
Player B 5 6 4 3 5 6 3 5
Player C 5 6 5 4 5 5 5 6
Player D 5 5 7 4 6 4 4 5

Skins are those LARGER.  Remember when one ties, all tie.  No carryovers for this game.  For this example:  Player B has 2 skins and A & D have 1 ea.  They would divide the money allocated for their flight  (usually $1 per person before play begins)  Keep the flights within 5 strokes of handicaps and only play  gross skins.

SIX-SIX-SIX or 6-6-6

1 best ball on first 6 holes, 1 thru 6. Two best balls on next 6 holes, 7 thru 12.  Three best balls on last 6 holes, 13 thru 18.

SPLASH

All  players bring a sleeve (3) of new golf balls.  After play, golfers must contribute one ball for every one they hit into a water hazard .  Lowest net scores divide up the balls within flights.  Divide appropriately for 1st and 2nd place (60/40)

T’s  &  F’s

Total scores of the holes beginning with the letters     T & F.  Subtract ½ handicap.

This would include holes  2,3,4,5,10,12,13,14,15

TEE-TO-GREEN

For this game, count only strokes from tee to green, no putts!  Prizes are awarded for 1st and 2nd gross within flights.
